Background

The importance of exposure to stories and vibrant imaginative adventures in a child’s life cannot be overstated. Fiction helps us get a taste for story-telling, unlocks our creative potential and at the same time serves to teach us about moral and ethical lessons. In fact, it is perhaps apt to say that fiction helps shape our entire childhoods and mould us into the persons we become. Unfortunately however, not every child in India enjoys the same access to this liberating world of fiction as others.

It is estimated that over two hundred thousand children in India suffer from severe visual impairments making it impossible for them to read, and as a consequence, limiting their access to good fiction. This calls for the crafting of alternative media of education and entertainment but sadly literary resources for visually impaired children are few and far between. Thus, it is important that we create as much inclusive educational content as we can so that everyone can share in the tales of mystical fiction and thrilling mysteries. And this is precisely what the Safar Series has tried to do.
